Our Hydrotex Excavation Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, safety, scheduling, personnel, equipment, and customer service functions of the hydrovac division. This role ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget while maintaining compliance with company policies, DOT regulations, and industry safety standards. This role may be required to operate a hydrovac truck and perform hydro excavation services from time to time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Manage day-to-day hydrovac operations, including scheduling crews, equipment, and job assignments • Supervise hydrovac operators, CDL drivers, laborers, and field personnel • Ensure compliance with all company safety programs, OSHA regulations, DOT requirements, and client site policies • Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs for hydrovac trucks and support equipment • Monitor project progress, productivity, and operational costs • Communicate with clients regarding scheduling, project updates, and service expectations as necessary; must coordinate such communication with sales • Assist with job walks, estimating, and preparation for projects as required • Conduct field visits, safety meetings, inspections, and performance evaluations • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses and implement corrective actions • Ensure operators maintain accurate records for equipment, inspections, driver logs, fuel usage, and project documentation • Support recruiting, onboarding, and training of operations personnel • Work closely with management to improve operational efficiency and profitability • Ensure crews maintain high-quality workmanship and professionalism at all times • Coordinate emergency response or after-hours work as needed • Determine upcoming work schedule and provide dispatch details to operators • Review and approve weekly payroll
Qualifications • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or college coursework preferred • Strong knowledge of hydrovac excavation practices and underground utility safety; minimum eight (8) years of hydrovac excavation operations experience (municipality, construction, oil field, industrial, etc.) –with potholing, daylighting, trenching, utility locating, etc. • Previous supervisory or management experience; strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills • Understanding of DOT, OSHA, and environmental regulations • Ability to read and interpret work orders, maps, utility locates, and project specifications • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Gmail, and operational scheduling software • Valid Texas driver’s license and current Med Card required; CDL A/B with tank endorsement and no restrictions required (held for a minimum five (5) years); Clean MVR and National Clearinghouse required
Physical Requirements • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more occasionally • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and work around heavy equipment • Ability to travel to job sites and respond to operational needs after hours and weekends when necessary
Work Environment • Exposure to construction sites, traffic areas, industrial facilities, and outdoor conditions • Requires evenings, weekends, and on-call availability depending on project needs
Preferred Skills • Experience with utility locating and excavation coordination • Knowledge of hydro excavation and vacuum equipment and maintenance • Experience managing multiple crews and projects simultaneously • Strong problem-solving and client relationship skills

This position reports directly to executive management and works closely with the hydrovac services salesperson and office administrator.
